About Coastal Passages
Coastal Passages is a premium, small-group boat tour and private charter company serving North Carolina’s coast, including Emerald Isle, Swansboro, Cedar Point, and the surrounding waters. What we do is simple: we take people to the places that make this area worth coming to, at a pace that feels calm and personal, using boats that can access shallow routes most operators cannot.
What makes the experience premium
Small-group by design
Our tours are intentionally small. That changes everything: how comfortable it feels, how easily you can ask questions, how flexible we can be, and how much time you actually get to spend doing the thing you came for.
Access most boats cannot offer
We run shallow-draft skiffs so we can navigate creeks, backwaters, and island edges that deeper boats avoid. That access is the difference between “seeing the coast” and actually experiencing it.
Two identical vessels for larger private groups
For private groups that need more capacity, two matching vessels can operate together so the experience stays personal and comfortable instead of turning into a crowd.
Working-water relationships that stay respectful
Some of what we offer is possible because of professional partnerships with people who work these waters every day. A key example is our coordination with Marsh Island Oyster Company for the Marsh Island Oyster Farm Tour. We treat that relationship the way it should be treated: professionally, respectfully, and without implying ownership of anyone’s lease or operation.
What you should expect on the water
A trip that is paced, not rushed
We run trips with intention. That does not mean slow. It means there is time to settle in, ask questions, take photos, and actually enjoy the environment without feeling herded from one moment to the next.
A route that can change for the better
We adjust routes and stops based on conditions. That flexibility is not a drawback. It is the point. The goal is a better day on the water, not sticking to a plan that no longer makes sense.
Clear communication and simple booking
Scheduled tours are booked online. Private charters are handled through an inquiry process so we can plan the right fit for your group and your goals. We keep that separation on purpose so the site stays easy to use and expectations stay clean.
Meet the captains
Seth Daniel, Founder and Captain
Seth is a lifelong waterman with a career built on time at the helm and responsibility on the water. After serving with the United States Coast Guard and running boats across the country, he returned his focus to the coast and to building experiences that are safe, calm, and genuinely worth your time.
His style is confident and straightforward. He prioritizes conditions, timing, and safety over rigid plans. If the best version of your trip means adjusting the route, he will make that call and explain why.
Seth also holds a degree in Middle Grades Education from NC State, which shows up in how he guides. He can keep kids engaged, make the details interesting without turning it into a lecture, and help adults understand what they are seeing without talking at them.
Lauren Daniel, Co-Founder and Captain
Lauren is a North Carolina native with deep local time on Carteret County waters and a serious education background. She holds a North Carolina teaching license and a U.S. Coast Guard-approved captain’s license, plus a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology.
Her approach adds structure and intention to every trip: clear expectations, thoughtful pacing, and hands-on moments that feel natural rather than staged. She is especially strong at turning “pretty scenery” into something guests understand and remember, whether that means coastal bird life, estuary systems, or the working-water culture that still defines this area.
Departures & Meeting Points
Coastal Passages operates as a service-area business serving North Carolina’s Crystal Coast. We do not operate from a public storefront or office.
How meeting points work
Your meeting point is confirmed in your booking email.
We meet at pre-arranged public access points based on trip type, conditions, and schedule.
Scheduled Tours (book online):
Default departure is an Emerald Isle public access point.
Cedar Point departures:
Only used when explicitly offered for that time slot, or when the captain confirms a change due to conditions and notifies guests in writing (text/email) no later than the day before whenever possible.
Arrival timing
Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for parking, gear, and a short safety briefing.
Our standards
Safety comes first, without killing the vibe
We run calm trips, but we take safety seriously. You will get a short briefing, you will know what to do, and you will feel looked after without being talked down to.
No hype and no wildlife promises
This coast is alive, but it is still nature. We do not guarantee dolphins, sea turtles, or any specific wildlife. What we do guarantee is effort, judgment, and local knowledge applied the right way.
Premium does not mean stiff
We are professional, but not formal. We want you comfortable. We want your kids to have fun. We want couples to feel like they got something memorable. We want locals hosting guests to feel proud of what they booked.
Choose your day on the water
If you want a tour with a clear focus and an easy booking flow, start with our scheduled tours.
If you want the boat to yourselves, want to accommodate special requests, or have a specific vision for the day, request a private charter and we will build it around your group and the day’s conditions.
